  34. HI Gussers,

  36.     Got a windows/norton-desktop3.0 problem. After installing 
  37. ndw3, my windows was unable to initialize the gus...here are the 
  38. errors:
  39. 1) ndw caused a GPF with ultrasnd.drv when I tried to run windoze in
  40.    enhanced mode
  41. 2) under standard mode, says that there is a version mismatch between
  42.    grvultra.386 and ultrasnd.drv
  43. 3) tried to restore the files in (2) but still gave the same errors.
  44.  
  45.     my question is this: will installing a newer version solve these
  46. problems??? (yes, don't laugh but I am still using the 3.53 disks that
  47. came with my GUSmax) Any ideas, suggestions anyone?? thanks.

  93. It seems that there are a few people that do not experience problems in 
  94. the menus with the joystick but I think there are more who do than those 
  95. who don't.

  97. There are two things that you can do:
  98.  
  99. Press <J> in the menus and this will disable the stick for the menus 
  100. only. This solution is documented in the NASCAR manual so obviously 
  101. Papyrus knows something is wrong.
  102.  
  103. The other solution works for me but I don't know about others. It seems 
  104. that the midi drivers interfere with the joystick somehow. If your 
  105. calibration is very jumpy (left-to-right) then you should select <none> 
  106. for midi driver in the setup program. It's no big deal, you just don't 
  107. get the music at the opening and closing credits. This SHOULD let your 
  108. joystick calibrate properly. You may still have to disable the joystick 
  109. in the menus though since this seems to be more of a Papyrus problem.

  127. Well the industry standard music notation package is Finale which cost you, 
  128. as you rightly assume, 'mucho $$$'.

  130. But there are at least two other Windows based shareware programs that are 
  131. worthy of consideration: Mozart and NoteWorthy Composer. They are both well 
  132. configured programs enabling you to enter, edit and print music scores. The 
  133. major differences (to the best of my knowledge) are:

  135.  - NoteWorthy Composer has the ability to import and export midi files,  
  136.    whereas Mozart can only export 
  137.  
  138.  - You can 'audition' your compositions in NWC (but not with patch caching) 
  139.  
  140.  - Only Mozart allows you to enter lyrics.

  142. I recommend that you check them both out. You'll find them in oak.oakland.edu, 
  143. directory /SimTel/win3/music as nwc11.zip and (I believe) MOZRT11A.ZIP and 
  144. MOZRT11B.ZIP.

  161. You're right.  For good quality scoring you will pay mucho $$$.  But for
  162. adequate scoring, you might try Power Tracks Pro from PG Music (maker of
  163. Band in a Box).  Additionally, you get a full-featured MIDI sequencer,
  164. IMHO, the bargain of the century at $29.95.
